Walmart’s Unique challenge to Amazon – the Rise of Uniquely J

And, here begins another chapter in the Walmart-Amazon tussle as Walmart acquires Jet.com to grab a bigger share of the millennials segment of the market. Uniquely J is now the new online face of Walmart.

This comes as a befitting answer to Amazon’s acquisition of Whole Foods Market. With Uniquely J, Walmart is getting back at Amazon with the most well-thought move ever. Now, Walmart has never exactly eyed the millennials, evident from the lack of Walmart stores in the urban areas. However, with Amazon emerging triumphant in the grocery and household segment, a segment that was Walmart’s fort before Amazon, Uniquely J is one great step for Walmart for not only regaining its lost market, but also for attracting the urban millennials who love to shop everything online.

Here is the fact of the matter:

Amazon acquired Whole Foods Market for a staggering $13.7 billion. Now, it operates under the name 365 By Whole Foods Market. This acquired venture of Amazon’s is due to expand immensely under the e-commerce giant.

Walmart, on the other hand, has played its trump card by eyeing the same millennial audience as 365. Uniquely J, with its products, packaging, and even the label designs, looks something that the millennials are going to like. Everything has been done to stay in line with the preferences, convenience, and quirks of the millennial segment of the market, suggested Meredith Klein, Director Public Relations, Jet.com.

This is certainly a great opportunity for Walmart to prove that it can, in fact, offer the best in grocery and household products at low prices. There is no reason why it wouldn’t want to make this intention conspicuous since issues had been raised about the condition of its products earlier on. Also, because the company would retain the sourcing control, private brands can possibly bring in a larger volume of profit.

Uniquely J will offer the choicest range in grocery and household merchandise like coffee, olive oil, paper towels, laundry detergent, and more. It will also feature top notch brands like Bonobos and Modcloth in the wide array of products that it is to offer. Also, if these brands catch popularity on this online venture, Walmart is likely to let these into the stores as well.

Looks like Walmart is definitely doing a lot to be win its place in the online game. It is reported that apart from taking the market by storm with Uniquely J, Walmart has also jumped headlong into grocery delivery trials in the silicon Valley for customers who aren't home. Get ready Amazon.
